Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Mason Kemeny, trading as Mas0nk, handles personal information through the Mas0nk website (mas0nk.com), the Movie Night website (movienight.pro), the Movie Night app and related services (together, the “Services”).

Effective date: 30 October 2026

1. Who is responsible

Mason Kemeny, trading as Mas0nk, is responsible for personal information handled through the Services. Contact: mas0nk.dev@gmail.com.

We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) as a matter of practice, whether or not the Act strictly applies to us.

2. What this covers

Movie Night is available on iPhone and iPad, with an Apple TV app, home screen widgets and a Messages extension. It does not need a Mas0nk account; it uses your Apple Account and iCloud. The websites (mas0nk.com and movienight.pro) do not need an account either. If we release another app that handles information differently, we will update this policy before it is released.

3. Information Movie Night handles

Movie Night handles information you enter or choose to use in the app:

When you first open the app, it asks for your first name. You can type it or pick it from your contact card, and only the first name is used. Existing users are asked once if no name is set.

This content is stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud account using Apple CloudKit. Mas0nk does not run a separate database for Movie Night and cannot see this private content. The exception is content you choose to share through a link, which is published as described in section 4.

Importing from Trakt. If you use the import feature, you sign in to your Trakt account through Trakt’s own login. Movie Night then reads your watch history, ratings, lists, watchlist and reviews from Trakt, and saves them as Movie Night content in your device and iCloud as described above. Movie Night uses that access once, for the import, then gives it up. We do not receive your Trakt password. You can also revoke Movie Night’s access in your Trakt account settings. Trakt handles your information under its own privacy policy.

4. Groups, friends and shared lists

Where Groups is available, you can create or join a group with other people. A group is stored in the organiser’s private iCloud and shared with members through Apple CloudKit sharing. Members of a group can see what is shared in it, such as the group’s name and emoji, each member’s name, photo and home theatre setup, and shared films, movie nights, RSVPs, votes and ratings. Only share a group invitation with people you want to see this information. If you leave or delete a group, or the organiser deletes it, access changes as described in the app. This data stays in iCloud and is not sent to Mas0nk.

Friends

Where Connect with Friends is available, you can connect with people you are in a group with. It is opt-in: nothing is shared with a friend until you turn it on. Once you do, your friends can compare what you have watched, your ratings and your watch dates. Friend sharing uses Apple CloudKit and iCloud in the same way as Groups, and is not sent to Mas0nk. You can turn off Share What I’ve Watched, which deletes your watched list from every group. You can also stop sharing a list with a group, delete the list, or leave a group, and a group’s organiser can remove members. Anything a friend has already seen may remain with them.

Shared links and public lists

When you share a film or a list using a link (for example a link on movienight.pro), the information in that link is shown on a public page on movienight.pro and becomes visible to anyone who has the link, without signing in. For a film this is the film and your first name as the person who recommended it, if you have set a name in Movie Night. For a list this is the list’s name, your name as its owner and the films in it. Shared lists are stored in the public part of Apple CloudKit, which Mas0nk can access, not in your private iCloud. Anyone with the link can read it and can pass the link on. You can choose Stop Sharing Link in the app, which deletes the public record, and the page then shows that the list is no longer shared. This works if you are online and do it on a device that knows the list is public. If you are offline, the removal is not retried. If you delete the app first, the public list can remain until it is removed, so email us at the address below and we will remove it. Copies others have already made, and anything cached, may remain. Only share a link with people you want to see this information.

5. Analytics and diagnostics

Movie Night includes two third-party tools, both configured by us. Both link what they collect to a random profile identifier generated for your Movie Night profile, which is the same on all your devices. It is not your name, email address or Apple Account.

PostHog (United States) collects product analytics, handled error reports and operational logs:

No session replays. Movie Night does not record screenshots or replays of your screen. Earlier versions could, with all text and people’s photos masked; that has been switched off for every version, and any replays already recorded are deleted after 30 days.

Sentry (United States) collects crash and error diagnostics. We configure it not to collect default personal data such as IP addresses, names or email addresses. It receives:

Smart Search. When you use Smart Search, your request is interpreted on your device using Apple Intelligence. To monitor and improve its quality, the text you typed, how it was interpreted, and timing and error details are sent to PostHog. This text can contain anything you type, so do not enter personal information into Smart Search that you do not want sent.

Help me decide and suggestions. When you use Help me decide, or see suggestions on a film page, your answers (such as genres, actors and eras you choose), the suggestions shown and the ones you pick may be sent to PostHog in the same way as Smart Search, linked to your random profile identifier. Suggestions are produced using your watchlist, ratings and choices. Do not type personal information into free-text fields that you do not want sent.

Your control. You can turn off analytics at any time in the app under Settings › Advanced. Crash and error reports from Sentry are part of how Movie Night stays stable and cannot be switched off in the app. You can also ask us to delete data linked to you (section 9).

We do not sell this data, do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, do not use it to track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and do not combine it with other companies’ data for advertising.

6. Payments

Movie Night Pro subscriptions are bought through the App Store. Apple processes the payment under its own terms. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active. We do not receive your card details.

7. Device permissions

8. Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We share information with these providers only to run the Services:

YouTube. Movie Night uses YouTube API Services to play trailers. Google’s Privacy Policy (http://www.google.com/policies/privacy) applies to trailers played through YouTube.

When you create an event invitation, the iOS share sheet lets you choose how to send the calendar file. The service and recipients you choose then receive the details in that file, including the night’s details and your email address as the calendar organiser. Mas0nk does not send invitations for you.

We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect safety, rights or security.

9. Retention and deleting your data

10. Websites

11. Overseas handling

Our providers may process information outside Australia, including in the United States. Sentry and PostHog data is processed in their United States regions. Apple, Google (including YouTube and Google Fonts), TMDB, OMDb, Trakt, UserJot and unpkg may also process information in other countries. We take reasonable steps to choose providers with appropriate security practices, but their own privacy policies govern what they do with information. By using the Services you understand your information may be handled outside Australia.

12. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information we hold, including using reputable providers. Movie Night’s cloud sync is provided by Apple CloudKit, and access to Contacts, Calendar and camera is controlled by Apple’s permission system. No internet service is completely secure. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as the law requires.

13. Children

Our Services are for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Your choices and rights

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw your consent to analytics in Settings › Advanced, and refuse or revoke device permissions in your device settings. If you are in the EU or UK, or in California, you may have additional rights under local law. Contact us and we will respond.

15. Complaints and contact

Email mas0nk.dev@gmail.com. We will review and respond to complaints. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

16. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices change, including when we release features or apps that handle information differently. We will change the effective date at the top and, for material changes, give notice in the app or on the website.
